In seven new tanks, you will discover about ten species of lovely Seahorses and the famous Sea Dragon, an endangered amazing creature.
Seahorses, generalities :
The genus word "Hippocampus" belongs to Greek words:"hippos" which means horse and "kampos", marine fish. Since the Antic times, people are surprised by this little creature so different from the others by its equine profile and its battleship aspect.
From the small Pygmy Seahorse (two centimetres long) to the imposing Sea Dragon (45 centimetres long) there are more than 50 species all around the world's oceans.
Unfortunately, today a lot of species are endangered because of intensive fishing and the destroying of their life habit.

The Seahorse, a very fragile animal
During your journey in the fantastic world of seahorses, you would like to certainly take pictures of theses lovely creatures. Please, do not use flash. The intense light could stress the animals.
We also would like to remind our young marine explorers to not banging the glasses for the well being of our residents. Thank you!
Some amazing creatures at SEA LIFE Paris
WEEDY SEA DRAGON (Phyllopteryx taeniolatus)The only one species of its genus, the weedy sea dragon car measure 45 cm long. It lives next to the Australian reefs, presents beautiful colors and some weed-like protuberances. Its life and reproduction in captivity are extremely difficult. Today it is a protected species.
Sea Dragons are very close from Seahorses but their appareance is quite different. There are two species of Sea Dragons in the world and it's very difficult to observe them in their life habit. They are experts in the art of camouflage.

BIG BELLY SEAHORSE (Hippocampus abdominalis)With a maximum size if 38 cm long, the species is one of the biggest in the world. Its "big belly" shows a funny profile. It lives in the seagrass of the Pacific Ocean and the Big Belly is a very vulnerable seahorse.
THE NURSERYThis breeding small box is at the end of the exhibition. You will see a lot of baby seahorses from the different species of seahorses : slender seahorses, big belly seahorses... Born in our SEA LIFE center !
